Well you have decided you want to get into affiliate marketing and you will be tempted to grab lots of programs to start with. Maybe you have signed up with one or two of the programs on offer but will this be the most successful way to become an affiliate marketer, no not really, start with one and work with that first.
Before getting started in affiliate marketing there are several things that will be helpful in getting started but first you should choose a niche market before choosing affiliate programs. It is important to choose your niche first, that way you will make sure that all of your affiliate products will be much more appropriate to your audience. Doing it this way makes promoting your affiliate programs easier for the buying public as this allows you more flexibility in your choice of what affiliate marketing strategies you have available.
Choosing your perfect niche market, it is best to choose something that you are knowledgeable about. Let’s say you have a love of animals like “dogs” you might try and find a niche like dog training. If you train people in sport, find a niche relating to the area of training that you have experience in. There are hundreds of choices, and best of all, each niche has probably dozens of products so you have a few choices available.
One of the most important first steps for affiliate marketing is that you can have multiple products all at the same time, things like article marketing, e-books, classified ads, e-courses and email marketing. By doing this you are working multiple avenues at once therefore increasing your footprint and greater chance for being spotted by Google and increasing your success rate in a much shorter amount of time.
Once you have chosen and built on your niche you may want to find a few more affiliate marketing that fit better into what you all ready have unning. Don’t forget to choose products or services that you feel comfortable with and have knowledge about as this will give you an air of authority as you write about them and people will be able to relate with you and you can build a more secure relationship with your clientele or list. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to fool the public with products that you don’t understand or doesn’t delivery what it promises or you will find your credibility failing and you will lose you following quickly, in other words dead and dying fast.
Ask yourself “What do you know about the Company selling the products” Why, knowing what type and brands that are used may better help to sell if the brand name is well know. You don’t need to have all your affiliate products in well known brands but a few well targeted products can be handy to help draw attention to your site if you advertise more than one product on you web site, this may catch peoples attention to other selling items.
Do your research about the affiliate company and find out how they pay, if using a third party like Clickbank or they pay direct, find out that they have a good record because you are hoping to be paid for your efforts. You will need to determine if they only pay a commission or have a traffic bonus plan where you may get some sort of incentive for sending traffic to them whether they make a purchase or not, also if they use a service like Clickbank, find out things like their gravity and returns as this could influence your monetary return over the long run.
Finally “know thy enemy”, in this case do they have a policy and in most cases yes, so how does this affect you, understand and make sure that there are not too many restrictions that will impede you in being able to sell their product as well as other products, because if you try selling competing products there maybe a clause against it so you may find problems later on therefore check it out first. Too many restrictions may restrict your ability to sell and make money.
